Over the winter months many pieces of equipment are parked for extended time waiting for its next seasonal usage. More often than not they are just driven into the shed or lean to and left until they are required next. A little time spent before they are parked up will save a lot of time and frustrations later!

We have compiled a list of nine good practices to follow to save the future you time and money.

• Wash all the equipment down, this will help to prevent rust and corrosion.
• Change the engine oil and filters, this will stop the sediment forming in the engine and reducing any moisture in the engine preventing internal corrosion and having the equipment ready to next season. It is also good practice to have a oil analysis carried out in case there are any faults that may be unknown, this will reduce possible down time next season.
• Check all other fluids for condition and level and change as required.
• Check the condition and concentration of the antifreeze in the radiator, this will help prevent corrosion and stop the water freezing causing internal damage to the engine and radiator.
• Grease all pins and bushes, this will remove all moisture to prevent corrosion.
• Replace the fuel filters and fill the fuel tanks, with full tanks there is less chance for condensation to occur contaminating the fuel.
• Remove the battery and keep in a dry area and periodically charge to ensure life expectancy is maintained.
• Spray any exposed metal surfaces with a water proofing agent to prevent corrosion and keep equipment in top condition.
• Visually inspect the equipment for any damage, this will save time by fixing it now than when it is needed for use.

With these simple steps and precautions your equipment will be all ready to go at the start of the next season.
