Magpies principal sponsor: Oil Intel / Total Lubricants re-signs

After a successful partnership in 2019, Total Lubricants and the Hawkes Bay Rugby Union are delighted to announce that Total will be the principal sponsor of the Hawke’s Bay Magpies for the next 3 seasons. Both parties are excited to continue the partnership, particularly since the necessary measures around Covid-19 had interrupted preparations for the upcoming season.

“More than ever, we feel privileged and excited to be able to support the Magpies – as to us, this support extends to communities across New Zealand”, says Reuben Thickpenny, director of Oil Intel (authorised distributor of Total Oil in NZ – www.tenz.nz) and passionate rugby fan. The oil and lubricant company has been operating under strict safety protocols as an Essential Services Provider in lockdown Alert Level 4 and now 3, allowing essential businesses across New Zealand to remain operational.

Planning is well underway to surprise the Magpies fans with competitions and innovative entertainment around the games: “We are thrilled to have Total continue as the Magpies principal sponsor and to have the team supported by such a prominent, global brand as Total. New Zealand distributor Oil Intel supplies businesses nationwide, with its head office here in Hawke’s Bay. It’s really exciting for fans as there will be a significant investment in match day experiences: both parties came together recently to brainstorm how we could go about activating this sponsorship and ideas were sparking from both sides of the table to make Magpies’ games as fun and interactive as possible”, says Dan Somerville, Commercial Manager for the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union. “With public hungry for rugby, there will be an additional interest in the Mitre 10 Cup in 2020. The likelihood of All Blacks and other stars participating makes this a very exciting, not to be missed competition.”

Both Total and the HBRU are community-driven, wanting to keep the game accessible to as many people as possible. “Just as the actual games, we look to organise activities that truly bring together families and friends of all ages. It is an opportunity to do something unique for a special community”, comments Reuben Thickpenny, “Family is a word often used within our office premises as well, it is what our culture is built upon.” The way Total will make its mark on this sponsorship will reflect this: family fun coming up at McLean Park!
